27 Ivor New Town Rd [No Longer Considered a Match]

In 1861 William Williams lived with his family at 27 Ivor New Town Rd (now Barrack Row Rd). These homes, then owned by the Dowlais Iron Company, were originally Barracks for soldiers who were to keep an eye on the town after the Merthyr Uprising in 1831. This area is known as Penywern, and overlooked the iron works.

William's neighbors, in 1861, were the families of William Davies to the right and Rees Lewis to the left. It is likely that after a hard day of toiling away as an iron miner, William may have frequented the Ivor Arms or Fish Pond & Castle pubs that were at the end of the street.
